Daily Prayer

Daily Prayer

Modern technology gives us many opportunities to join in worship from our own homes with other Catholics in places near and far. We can use this time of social distancing and self-isolation to explore some of these opportunities and to deepen our appreciation of the Word of God.

A good way to become more familiar with the Word of God is to read and ponder the Mass Readings laid down for each day. There are many resources available for this.

Pray as you go is a popular website created by the Jesuits and guides us in a meditation on one of the Mass readings for that day.

The daily readings for Mass can be found at Universalis. This website also contains the Liturgy of the Hours for that day. The purpose of the Liturgy of the Hours is to sanctify the whole day with prayer. It consists primarily of psalms supplemented by hymns, readings and other prayers and antiphons. Together with the Mass, it constitutes the official public prayer life of the Church. Many people commit to celebrating parts or all of the Liturgy of the Hours each day. This present time might provide you with the chance to give it a try.
